Talk 1: The Ionization Problem in Quantum Mechanics
Abstract: The ionization conjecture states that a neutral atom can bind at most one or two extra electrons. Although this is well established experimentally, deriving it rigorously from many-body quantum mechanics remains a major challenge. I will review some results on this topic and related problems.
Talk 2: Quantitative Estimates for the Excess Charge from the Schrödinger Equation
Abstract: We will review several rigorous estimates for the excess charge in atoms, starting from the many-body Schrödinger equation. This includes Lieb’s fundamental result $2Z + 1$ and recent refinements.
