Talk 1: Nuclear Fission and the Liquid Drop Model
Abstract: The critical mass in nuclear fission is predicted by the liquid drop model. This talk is devoted to a mathematical treatment of the corresponding variational problem. In particular, I will discuss joint results with Rupert Frank on the existence and non-existence of minimizers.
Talk 2: The Ionization Conjecture in the Thomas–Fermi–Dirac–von Weizsäcker Theory
Abstract: We will discuss a proof of the ionization conjecture in the TFDW theory, obtained by combining techniques developed for the liquid drop model with Solovej’s renormalization method for the Thomas–Fermi theory. This is joint work with Rupert Frank and Hanne Van Den Bosch.
报告人简介：Phan Thanh Nam现为德国慕尼黑大学教授。主要从事偏微分方程分析、数学物理、变分理论等领域的理论研究，特别是在多体量子力学等领域做出过具有国际影响力的系列研究成果，在Invent. Math.、CPAM、JEMS等国际顶尖数学期刊上发表论文60余篇，现为Mathematische Zeitschrift等国际数学杂志编委。
